Cole Vetor, Southeast Elite Gold: The 5’8 freshman from Community School of Naples was drilling three-point shots like he was in a lay-up line in the game we took in. Vetor gets shot ready in an instant, is quick to take advantage of unsuspecting defenders that are not aware of just how deep his range is, and is savvy in moving to open areas of the floor to get quick catch-and-shoot opportunities. He isn’t afraid to take a hit when driving to the hoop should the opportunity arise. Vetor does a good job when it comes to defensive positioning and anticipating the passing lanes.
Ethan Mott, Southeast Elite 3SSB: The 6’6 freshman out of Fort Lauderdale Pine Crest has quickly yet quietly become one of the more intriguing players in this 2028 Class. His shot is pure, Mott can create and make that shot off the catch or the dribble on either side of the arc, and he continues to show evidence of being a solid ball-handler and passer. Mott is a better athlete than given credit for, communicates well at both ends of the court, and has the ability to rip the rebound off the defensive board and push the ball up the floor in transition.
Demarius Knight, Southeast Elite Select: A 6’1 freshman out of Wildwood, Knight has a strong and solid frame for a young player and knows how to effectively use it. He overpowers opponents when taking the ball hard to the hoop, gets to and connects from the free throw line, carves out space for putbacks and gets ahead of the defense in transition. As peers catch up with him physically, Knight will want to elevate his perimeter scoring skills. He does appear to be a willing passer and doesn’t let the ball stick when it reaches him. Knight’s strength and quickness at the defensive end add value to his game.
Corbin Reev, Above Academy: A 6’2 home-schooled student that plays out of St. Joseph’s in St. Augustine, Reev plays with surprising toughness and confidence. He found some success connecting on perimeter shots inside the arc and then mixing in drives to the basket as the defense adjusted. Reev is a bit on the thin side right now but that didn’t keep him from challenging opponents for rebounds. As he gets stronger and his frame fills out, he should become a much better athlete and win the majority of those rebounding battles. Reev showed some basketball savvy with his ability to find open teammates when driving to the basket and disrupting the passing lanes on the defensive end.
Torre Washington, Southeast Elite 3SSB: A 6’5 freshman out of Port St. Lucie Treasure Coast, Washington does a great deal to impact the game without scoring mass amounts of points. Blessed with length, strength, and bounce, he plays bigger than his listed size. Washington scores well around the basket but can step out and make shots to fifteen feet, passes the ball well, and pursues offensive rebounds with great desire. He is quick up the floor on the break and has no problem finishing above the rim. Washington is a good shot blocker for his size and can defend bigger players inside because of his strength and smaller players on the perimeter because of his length and footspeed.
Chase Dortch, Southeast Elite Gold: The 5’10 freshman from Ribault in Jacksonville made life difficult for the opposition on Saturday. He continuously pushed the pace, finding teammates on the break or got to the basket before the defense could set itself. On defense, quick reactions, anticipating the play, and savvy produced no less than four steals by our count and at least that many tips and deflections. Dortch didn’t take or need to take any perimeter shots in the game we watched. We look forward to seeing him play again to better judge that aspect of his play.
Johnas Maurice, Southeast Elite 3SSB: The 6’0 freshman out of Orlando Edgewater has a motor that seemingly never stops at either end of the floor. Maurice isn’t a “head’s down-try to stop me” player when heading to the hoop. He looks to have a plan and if he doesn’t score, Maurice knows where his teammates are to get them the ball and avoid a turnover. If open from the perimeter, he doesn’t hesitate to take the shot, finding success more often than not. Defensively Maurice is a pest, guarding the ball the full ninety-four feet and makes it difficult for the offense to get started.
Jayquan Flowers, Sunshine Elite: A 6’1 freshman out of Orlando Cypress Creek, Flowers was the lone bright spot in a tough outing for his team Saturday morning. Despite a perimeter shot that lacks ball rotation, Flowers dropped in three of four attempts from behind the arc. He also excelled in transition, scoring at the rim with some tough finishes after a couple of dribbles or directly off the pass. Flowers has a good frame and athletic ability for a young player and uses it well to spear rebounds. He will push the ball up the floor in transition if a guard isn’t immediately available.
Reggie Evans, Jr., Southeast Elite 3SSB: A 6’3 8th grader out of Tampa Sports Leadership and Management Academy, Evans looks perfectly comfortable playing up an age level. Long, lanky, with a high basketball IQ and skill level, Evans can play multiple positions and produce at each one. He has a reliable perimeter shot, solid ball-handling skills, and the ability to score through contact at the basket. Evans is quick to give the ball up to teammates ahead of the pack in transition and get the ball to teammates with better shot opportunities in half-court sets. He covers a lot of ground quickly on the defensive end thanks to his wingspan and effort.
