Turral Berry, Auburndale: A 6’2 senior, Berry was one of the more dynamic scorers at the Fall Shootout. He is a three-level scorer with deep shooting range, a quick first step, and the ability to score well in traffic at the basket through contact.
Jatwan Penick, Auburndale: A 6’5 senior, Penick is a quick leaper that is very active around the basket at both ends of the court. He put back several offensive rebounds, flushed lobs, and ran the floor for easy baskets. Penick is a good shot blocker at his size and can defend both post and perimeter.
Gabe Grimsley, Bartow: A 6’1 senior. Grimsley is quick with the ball and is at his best when he can get paint touches and create space for his mid-range shot which is highly accurate. He has three-point range, is quick with the basketball, pushes the pace, and has quick feet and hands on defense.
Derwyn Link, Bartow: A 6’7 junior, Link has some inside/outside offensive versatility. He has good length and strength to score around the basket whether as a slasher, offensive rebounder, or transition finisher. If in rhythm, Link will connect on perimeter shots on either side of the three-point line.
Steven Destin, Discovery: A 6’2 junior, Destin plays much bigger than his size thanks to a strong wide frame. He has a nose for the ball coming off the glass and is quick to put the ball back up and in for points. While Destin didn’t show much else in the way of skill, he makes an impact with his unique talent and relentless effort.
Julian Sanchez, Discovery: A 6’0 senior, Sanchez stretches the floor with his outside shooting prowess. He gets to his spots quickly and is always shot-ready. He’s active on defense with fast hands, quick feet, and good anticipation instincts.
Lamont Hamilton, Plant City: A 6’4 sophomore, Hamilton is long, bouncy, and plays with relentless energy. He showed some mid-range shooting skill but there is work to be done when it comes to the offensive fundamentals. Hamilton’s physical gifts allow him to make an impact on the offensive glass, in transition, and on defense where he can defend a variety of positions.
Brandon Perkins, Gibbs: A 5’11 senior, Perkins is slick and quick with the basketball. He is tough to keep away from the rim, seeks body contact, and is proficient from the foul line. Perkins is a skilled shooter off the dribble, pushes the pace whenever possible, and makes good shot vs pass decisions when attacking the defense and getting into the paint.
Jeremiah Reed, Osceola: A 6’2 sophomore, Reed has a solid and strong body with the knowledge of how best to use it. He frequently overpowered opponents in getting to the basket and completed his fair share of old-fashioned three-point plays. Reed showed enough perimeter shooting accuracy to be respected from deep and some good passing skills leading to easy baskets for teammates.
Urijah Newkirk, Santa Fe Catholic: A 6’1 senior, Newkirk was on a heater the entire game we watched. He drained six threes, scored on drives to the basket and beat the defense down the floor with the ball in transition. Newkirk had some notable assists in both full and half-court situations.
Ethan Jackson, Forest: A 6’2 junior, Jackson impressed with good footwork, the ability to use a variety of fakes to create space for shots, and overall approach to the game. He made good shot vs drive decisions coming off ball-screens, demonstrated reliability from the mid-range, and was a willing and able passer into the post.
Ayden “Skoot” Donald, Tampa Catholic: A 6’1 senior, Donald is making up for the time lost to injury last season. A tough scorer from all three levels, he keeps defenders off balance with his ability to drive and drop in buckets if played too close or knock down perimeter shots if not played close enough. Donald is a creative finisher around the basket with either hand.
Neo Flores, Tampa Catholic: A 6’0 senior, Flores is a natural scorer that is going to get his points one way or another. He scores every way imaginable but is also a willing passer and good rebounder for his size. Flores can be disruptive in the passing lanes, quickly converting steals into scores.
Arik Ring, Victory Christian: A 6’11 sophomore, Ring has come a long way in short amount of time both physically and skill-wise. A rim runner, lob threat, and paint protector, Ring uses his length and quick leap to make life tough for opponents in the lane. He’s coming along with his post scoring skills and ability to make short shots from the perimeter.
Terry Ogbeide, Victory Christian: A 6’5 senior, “T.J.” provides a strong and athletic body that produces results both inside and out. He’s a strong driver from the high post and short corners, will make perimeter shots if unchallenged, and a physical rebounder at both ends of the court. Ogbeide can defend bigger players inside thanks to his strength and smaller players on the perimeter thanks to his lateral footspeed.
Miles Morrell, Victory Christian: A 5’8 senior, Morrell is one of those guys that can impact a game in multiple ways despite his size. He’s low to the ground, has excellent ball-skills and deep range on his perimeter shot. Opponents have to pick their choice of death: Morrell draining deep threes or Morell blowing by them to collapse the defense and get teammates easy shot attempts. He is a pest on defense by hounding the ball-handler, making it tough to initiate offense.
