MLK Weekend Notables – Rpt II

T.J. Baker, Tallahassee Florida High: “Tough” is an apt description for the 6’2 senior.  Baker is physically strong, gets to the basket, and finishes through contact in a crowd.  He has a solid pull-up game inside the arc and has the ability to play either guard spot.  Baker defends physically without fouling and disrupts the passing lanes.

Zay Mosley, Winter Haven: The 6’7 junior is bouncy and has a good frame.  He rebounds out of his area at both ends, has good footwork and touch around the basket, and is quick to outlet the ball once he secures the defensive rebound.  Mosley is a high-level rim-runner, rebounder, and rejector.  His perimeter game continues to develop as he is comfortable attacking the basket with a couple of dribbles from the high post and short corner areas and shows flashes consistency when it comes to shooting from inside the arc.

Nathan Kirk, Daytona Beach Mainland: The 6’0 sophomore makes getting to the basket and scoring look easy.  Kirk simply blows by opponents and scores through contact with either hand on both sides of the basket.  He also has a reliable perimeter shot.  A solid ball-handler and passer, Kirk gets the ball to the right player at the right time in the right spot.  He puts in work on defense and is alert to help or double-down on opponents.

Kade Manley, Daytona Beach Mainland: The 6’0 freshman is the definition of knock-down shooter.  He is feisty and plays hard at both ends.  He plays within himself and does not try to do things that he is not yet capable of.  Manley looks to have a promising future if his current play is any indication.

Micah Taber, Oviedo The Master’s Academy: A 6’7 junior, there is just something intriguing about his game.  Taber didn’t put up noticeable numbers but he flashed good perimeter skills, played hard, and wasn’t afraid to play physically despite a thin frame.  Physical maturity will help but Taber’s skill set and determination will help him in the long run.

James Saulsby, Coral Springs HS: The 6’2 senior is a bit thin but quite quick.  Saulsby has no definitive position; he just goes out, plays, and produces in whatever role he ends up in.  He is a very good three-point shooter and reliable finisher in transition.  Saulsby takes care of the basketball when it is in his possession and is quick to get it to open teammates.  Defensively he is long and active.

Matt Puodziukaitis, Palm Beach Central: The 6’7 senior showed toughness inside at both ends of the court.  He is active on the offensive glass and rebounds well in traffic.  Puodziukaitis showed an ability to score on one and two dribble drives as well as an improved perimeter shot.  He had some tough finishes inside, challenged shots at the basket, and didn’t shy away from contact at either end.

Javian Jones, West Palm Beach King’s Academy: The 6’2 junior is a dual sport dynamo as he also excels as a wide receiver on the gridiron.  Jones is quick and athletic with a nice mid-range game.  He is quick to find and get the ball to open perimeter shooters.  Jones shoots well off the catch from behind the arc.  He is a confident ball-handler and decisive in his moves off the dribble.  Jones is alert to help out on the defensive end, jumping the passing lanes or coming from behind to tip the basketball.

Elyjah Freeman, Wellington HS: The 6’7 senior normally shoots the ball from the perimeter but had a tough outing when we watched him.  Still, Freeman found ways to score at the basket and/or the free throw line.  He is a lithe athlete that is a good ball-handler and passer.  Freeman is quick off the floor to secure rebounds and has the ability to start the transition game on his own.  Adding strength will help him on the collegiate level.

Aaron Richard, Miami Senior: The 6’8 junior has good size and a solid frame.  He rebounds his area well, shows a nice touch inside and runs the floor well.  Richard is active in challenging shots.  He fouled out of the game we watched but he will get better with more experience.
