Class 6A completed its state tournament last week with Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas hoisting the championship trophy. Here are our picks for the All-Tournament Team.
D.J. Wimbley, Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas (MVP): The 6’6 senior and Florida State commit made a big impact in the title game in leading STA back from a double-digit deficit. He got rolling in the second half and finished with 22 points, 11 rebounds and a trio of blocked shots. In a semi-final that STA dominated, he was subtly effective to the tune of 12 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists and 4 blocked shots.
C.J. Westbrook, Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas: The 6’2 sophomore led the team with 19 points in its semi-final win. In the championship game, Westbrook again scored in double-figures, finishing with 15 points.
D.J. Sandi, Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas: The 6’0 junior had his fingerprints all over both games in Lakeland. In the semis, he put up a stat line of 10 points, 5 rebounds, 8 assists and 2 steals. In the finals, he tallied 13 points, tossed 4 assists and grabbed a pair of steals.
Arosco Dubois, Orlando Evans: Something about playing in the Lakeland Center brings out the best in the 6’3 senior. Last year, he scored 33 (with 9 threes) against Columbus. This year, Dubois stuffed the stat sheet in the semis to the tune of 24 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals. He was even more dynamic in the title game, finishing with 31 points and 11 rebounds.
Antonio Pollard, Orlando Evans: The 6’2 senior was solid in both contests in Lakeland. He went for 11 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists in the semis. In the title game, he only put up 7 points but grabbed 8 rebounds and handed out 7 assists.
