Hoop Exchange Spring Player Showcase – Freshmen Rpt II

Jeremiah Jones, Gainesville The Rock School: A 6’0 freshman, he was another standout during four-on-four play.  He connected on three-pointers coming off ball-screens and then switched things up by taking the ball strong to the basket and scoring there.

Marcus Alberich, Hialeah Educational Academy: A 6’3 freshman, he made an impressive debut with his scoring ability.  He was proficient from behind the arc, active on the offensive glass, and had a couple of strong drives and finishes at the basket.  Alberich was alert and active on the defensive end, getting a couple of steals and quickly turning them into scores.

Miguel Orbe, Miami Country Day: A 6’1 freshman, Orbe plays with a sense of calm and coolness.  In a rare camp game that went into sudden death overtime, it was Orbe that dropped in a three-pointer to win the game just as calmly as relaxing with friends playing a video game.  He drilled four of those shots over the course of the game we watched and hit on a couple of drives for added measure.

Clarence Westbrook, Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas: A 6’0 freshman, Westbrook is a versatile scorer.  He is able to connect on floaters in the lane, pull-up mid-range jumpers, shots behind the arc, and is a sneaky offensive rebounder.  A bit on the thin side, Westbrook doesn’t shy away from attacking the basket, absorbing contact, and taking his act to the foul line, where he is reliable.

Ty Duncan, St. Augustine Tocoi Creek: A 6’2 freshman, Duncan drilled four of five threes in the game we took in.  In this type of setting, that is impressive.  If he can continue to do that at a high level as well as diversify his game, he will be fun to watch over the next three years.

Terrance Walker, Jacksonville Raines: A 6’1 freshman, Walker scored well inside the arc.  When didn’t score off of drives, he knocked down pull up jump shots.  He was also alert and active on the defensive end.

Dylan Campbell, Mount Dora: A 6’3 freshman, Campbell stood out by subtly doing a lot of little things that go in to winning games.  He rebounded well at both ends, was active in the passing lanes and garnered a couple of steals, found teammates for scores and ran the floor for easy points.  He made the most of his open half-court offensive opportunities by driving strong to the baseline and finishing above the rim.

Lunden Knights, Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas: A 6’2 freshman, he thrived in this scenario, getting out in transition for easy baskets, putting back missed shots by teammates, and slashing to the basket in half-court sets.  Knights also threw some nice passes to teammates for easy scores and was active in the passing lanes on defense.

Cherif Millogo, Kissimmee Central Pointe: Listed as a 7’2 freshman, Millongo is thin and has a ways to go skill-wise, but he plays hard, knows what to do with the ball once he gets it around the basket, and is already a high level rim protector.  It will be interesting to track his development the next few years.

Josiah Brook, Hialeah Educational Academy: A 6’3 middle-schooler, Brook showcased quite the skill set for one so young.  He proved to be an efficient perimeter shooter, tough driver and finisher at the basket, a good passer on the move and willing rebounder.
