Boozer earns second Mr. Basketball award

GAINESVILLE (April 3) – Cameron Boozer, a junior from Christopher Columbus High School in Miami, has been named the 2024 Florida Dairy Farmers Mr. Basketball in a final round of voting by a statewide panel of high school basketball coaches and media representatives.

The 6-9 forward, who also won the Mr. Basketball award in 2023, averaged 22.2 points, 11.4 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 2.1 blocks and 1.6 steals per game in leading his team to a 27-4 record and its third straight Class 7A state championship.

Boozer became the sixth player in the 42-year history of the award to win the honor multiple times, joining Joel Berry II of Lake Highland Prep, who is the only three-time winner of the award (2012-14), Vernon Carey Jr. (2018-19), Brandon Knight (2009-10), Nick Calathes (2006-07), Steve Edwards (1991-92) and Chris Corchiani (1986-87).

Boozer, who earlier was named the Class 7A Player-of-the-Year, tallied 12 of the 21 first-place votes and 167 points to finish ahead of Class 5A POY Marcus Allen of Norland, who had four first-place votes and 103 points.

Class 2A POY Lorenzo Cason of Victory Christian finished third (70), followed by Class 6A POY Josh Harris of Pembroke Pines Charter (42), Class 1A POY CJ Ingram of Hawthorne (29),

Class 3A POY Dante Allen of Riviera Prep (22) and Class 4A POY Jacob Daniels of Gibbs (10).

The Florida Dairy Farmers High School Sports Awards program exemplifies Florida Dairy Farmers’ commitment to the state’s youth. These awards honor the state’s top athletes and coaches in all FHSAA sanctioned sports. The program also emphasizes to young people the importance of keeping dairy products a primary part of their diet in their overall nutrition plan.
