We are back at in Gainesville for Session Two of the Florida Association of Basketball Coaches Team Camp. Once again college coaches were out to take in the state’s talent. Here is just a taste of what took place on Day One.
Miami Sports Leadership And Management Academy 61, Sanford Seminole 49
SLAM let a seven-point lead going into the second quarter trickle down to just two at the break. They righted the ship in the third to lead by five until taking over in the final period to win by double digits.
Tony Guerro, a 6’0 rising senior, led SLAM with 14 points.
Andrew Ferguson, a 6’8 rising junior, paced Seminole with 15 points.
Brooksville Nature Coast Tech 55, New Smyrna Beach 46
A tightly contested first period found the teams tied at 16-16, then Nature Coast took control. They lead by six at the break and ten going into the final period. NSB made a run in the final quarter, getting to within three at 46-43. Nature Coast responded by scoring seven unanswered points to put the game away.
Andrew Ramsaroop, a 6’3 rising junior, led Nature Coast with 18 points.
Tyler McKnight, a 6’4 rising senior, led NSB with 24 points.
Miami Northwestern 54, Leesburg 46
Leesburg trailed by just three, 12-9, at the end of the first quarter. At that point Northwestern took control opening a 26-15 lead at the break and keep Leesburg at bay for the entire second half.
Marcos Alberich, a 6’4 rising junior, paced Northwestern with 13 points.
Xavier Campbell, a 5’9 rising junior, led Leesburg with 14 points.
Oviedo 60, Sarasota Booker 26
It as still a game after one quarter with Oviedo up just five, 17-12. Booker struggled to score the entire game and it affected their performance at both ends of the court.
Terrel James, a 6’0 rising senior, led Oviedo with 16 points.
J.P. Lattimore, a 6’4 rising senior for Booker, had 10 points.
Fort Lauderdale Archbishop McCarthy 65, Tarpon Springs East Lake 58
After McCarthy grabbed a 17-13 lead at the end of the first quarter, East Lake had things going their way, leading by two at the half and three going into the final quarter. McCarthy elevated the defensive pressure and it produced results. East Lake got to playing too fast, committing turnovers that McCarthy turned into points. McCarthy took the lead early in the final period and never looked back.
Richard Segovia, a 5’9 rising senior, led Archbishop McCarthy with 17 points.
Jeremiah Cooper, a 5’10 rising senior, paced East Lake with 22 points.
Bradenton Braden River 47, Davenport 40
Braden River led throughout but Davenport proved to be a tough opponent to put away. It was still anybody’s game until about the last two minutes, when Braden River was able to get enough scores and stops to leave Davenport no time for a comeback.
Jerrod Long, a 6’1 rising junior, led Braden River with 14 points.
Juelz Bermudez, a 6’1 rising senior, led Davenport with 15 points.
Fort Lauderdale Nova Southeast University School 42, Sarasota Cardinal Mooney 37
Both teams found it difficult to score the entire contest. With one period left to play, “U-School” led by just one at 27-26. U-School extended its defense in the fourth quarter converting turnovers into scores to build a lead that would hold until the final buzzer.
Sean Jones, a 6’5 rising senior, led U-School with 22 points.
Elijah Price, a 6’8 rising junior, had 12 points for Cardinal Mooney
Riverview Winthrop College Prep 57, Jacksonville Eagle’s View 44
Winthrop got out to a double-digit lead early in the first quarter. Eagle’s View worked hard to whittle the score down and midway thru the final period got on a run and got to within seven. That is as close as Winthrop would let them get.
Kai Brookins, a 5’10 rising senior, led Winthrop with 13 points.
Justis Clements, a 6’2 rising senior, led Eagle’s View with 16 points.
