NIGHTRYDAS: NOTABLE NUMBERS FROM EYBL SESSION II (LIVE PERIOD)

Let’s take a look at some notable numbers for the squad from this past weekend’s EYBL stop in Memphis.  This was the only spring live period this year where college coaches could get and see prospect live and in person.

The group finished 2-2 this past weekend.  It could just have easily been 3-1 if they could have pulled out the win in a five-point loss to Drive Nation out of Texas.  Conversely, it could have been a 1-3 weekend if they had not survived a two-point win over Baltimore’s Team Melo.  Game One saw the Nightrydas defeat another Texas team, Pro Skills, due to the combination of making four more field goals despite shooting seven loss shots in the eight-point victory.  Game Two saw a loss to an undefeated CP3 team out of North Carolina due to poor shooting (33.3% overall) and getting outrebounded 51-34.  The aforementioned loss to Drive Nation can be pointed directly to the free throw line as the Nightrydas were outscored 23-7.  In the final two-point victory over Melo, the Nightrydas combination of six more two-point field goals and five more free throws overcame Melo’s 9-4 edge in made threes.

Caleb Gaskins, a 6’8 junior at Columbus, continued his stellar play from the first EYBL session.  He averaged 18.5 ppg and 7 rpg, earning Third-Team All-Session honors from one national outlet.  Gaskins continues to expand his perimeter game as he shot just under 40% from behind the arc for the weekend.

Marcellous Jackson, a 6’2 junior at Columbus, missed the first game but made up for lost time the rest of the weekend.  He averaged just over 14 ppg, shooting just under 50% from the field overall.  Jackson didn’t take many three-point shots over the course of three games but finished 2-4 overall from deep.

Felipe Quinones, a 6’4 junior at IMG Academy, deserves some notice.  While he averaged just over four points a contest this past weekend, Quinones averaged 4.5 assists per game and had a greater than three-to-one assist to turnover ratio.

This squad was 2-2 on the weekend, with every game decided by double-digits.  Vegas Elite took the session’s first game thanks to an 8-3 advantage in made threes and 11-5 advantage in made free throws.  The 16s turned the tables in their Game Two win over AOT out of Georgia with an 18-6 advantage in made free throws along with five more made field goals on 26(!) fewer shots according to the box score.  A 20-point win over Houston Hoops took place in Game Three as the Nightrydas doubled up their opponent in terms of two-point field goal makes (23 to 12) and made free throws (26 to 13).  The final game loss to Team Why Not out of California can be directly related to Why Not’s four more made three-pointers in the contest.

Khanye Moss, a 6’0 sophomore at Hialeah Mater Lakes, found his groove early on and was a consistent double-figure scorer the entire weekend.  He finishes with averages of 17.3 ppg, 4.5 apg, and 2.75 spg.  While the efficiency may not always have been there, the production certainly was.

Jeremy Jenkins, a 6’8 sophomore from Miami Riviera Prep, was solid all weekend long.  He averaged a double-double of 14 points and just under 11 rebounds a contest.  He shot just under 50% from the field overall.  Jenkins would have been over that threshold save for going 0-4 from behind the arc for the weekend.

Anthony Walcott, a 6’5 sophomore from Miami Norland, had a productive weekend, averaging 13 points a game on stellar 62% shooting from the field.

Quincy Douby, Jr., a 6’5 sophomore out of Miami True North, was again a consistent double-figure score, averaging right at 10 points a game.

The “youngsters” finished the weekend with a nice 3-1 record in Memphis.  After a ten-point loss to Vegas Elite in the opener, the squad finished the session with three double-digit blow-out wins.  A 23-7 advantage in made free throws was the biggest contributor to a 20+ point win over AOT out of Georgia in Game Two.  The Nightrydas pretty much dominated in every category in a 27-point victory over Houston Hoops.  It was much the same in the team’s win over Team Why Not from California in their final game of the session.

Josiah Brooks, a 6’2 8th Grader at Hialeah Educational, continues to look like one of the elite players in the 2029 Class.  He filled the stat sheet this past weekend to the tune of 16 points, almost 5 rebounds, over 4 assists, and over 2 steals per game.  Those are solid numbers regardless the level of competition.

Cayden Gaskins, a 6’7 freshman from Melbourne Holy Trinity, led the team in both scoring (18.3ppg) and rebounding (9.25rpg).  He seemingly got better each game with 12, then 14, then 21, then 26 points.  He shot 55.5% overall from the field last weekend.

King McFadden, a 6’2 freshman at Tocoi Creek near St. Augustine, is the third member of this productive trio for the Nightrydas.  Another stat sheet stuffer, McFadden put up 15.5 points, 5 rebounds, 3.25 assists, and 2 steals per contest.  McFadden shot an amazing 60% from the field overall, proving to be efficient in his productivity.
