Hoop Exchange Fall Festival – Rpt III

BELEN JESUIT

One of the more enjoyable teams to watch, Belen’s style of play will always keep the Wolverines in games no matter the opponent.  Alec Arnholt, a 6’0 senior, has a great feel for the game.  An excellent shooter from deep, he takes care of the ball, quickly gets it to open teammates for good shots, and anticipates the passing lanes well on defense.  Orlando Roche, a 6’3 junior, is crafty with the ball, makes good shot vs. pass decisions when attacking the basket and coming off ball-screens, and can create as well as make his own shot on either side of the arc.  Lucas Baldor, a 6’0 senior, had four steals in the game we took in while also playing bigger than his size in the rebounding department.  Belen is a team without much size (no one on the roster over 6’3) but as a group they do a good job of gang rebounding and using multiple defenses to keep opponents off balance.

WINDERMERE

The Wolverines return some good pieces from last season’s Class 7A finalist. The team has a solid in trio in 6’2 senior Lucas Boyd, 6’1 junior Gustavo Roca, and 6’5 junior Bryce Hoffert.  Boyd does a solid job of running the team from the point.  He is solid with the basketball, a good perimeter shooter, and scores well when attacking the basket with the dribble.  Boyd puts in good effort on defense and rebounds well for his size and position.  Roca has become a very dangerous three-point shooter.  He will drive the ball and score or distribute should the defense overplay him for the shot.  Hoffert is a great dirty work/chemistry player in that he does whatever is needed to get the “W”.  He is a good passer out of both posts, handles the ball well on the perimeter, rebounds well at both ends and is swift up and down the court in transition.

CORAL GLADES

The Jags took on a tough schedule at the Fall Festival and fared well.  Kyler Theophile, a 6’5 senior, generates plenty of offense from the wing.  He is a long athlete with solid perimeter skills.  Theophile is tough defend off the dribble when attacking the basket and has the ability to pull up quickly and know down shots.  He rebounds the ball well and can take it the length of the court if not challenged.  Brandon Pitts, a 6’6 senior, has a nice inside/out game.  He can score around the rim as well as take his defender away from the basket and put up points with either the shot or drive.  Pitts is a versatile defender as well.  Jamari Bolden, a 6’0 senior, is coming off a good summer and continues to impress.  He uses his speed and quickness well to get past defenders, get paint touches and score with floaters or crafty finishes in traffic.  Ethan Jean Louis, a 6’7 junior, provides an interior and rebounding presence at both ends.  Donovan Swain, a 6’2 junior, stretches defenses with his perimeter shooting.  Gavin Reed, a 6’0 junior, runs the team well from the point, understands when to push and when to pull back the pace, and makes good shot vs. pass decisions.

PALM BEACH CENTRAL

We were impressed with the teams we saw from Palm Beach County.  One of those was Palm Beach Central.  Tariq McLeod, a 6’4 senior, didn’t make the trip this weekend but PBC was still quite competitive with a lot of interchangeable parts.  Xavier Police, a 6’2 sophomore, has the bloodlines and skills to be a D-I prospect.  He shot the ball well from behind the arc, scored through contact at the basket, and was active on defense.  R.J. Joseph, a 6’0 senior, is a quick guard that pushes the pace, challenges defenders to keep him out of the lane, and gets the ball quickly to open teammates.  Ryan Waugh, a 6’1 senior, shot the ball well from distance and also made things happen on the offensive glass.  Roobens Jabouin, a 6’5 senior, and Tyler Sesilma, a 6’5 junior, are a load to handle inside, play tough interior defense, and dominate their respective rebounding areas.

MIAMI COUNTRY DAY

The Spartans are young but talented, with only two seniors listed on the roster.  One of those seniors, 6’8 Kaleb Corbitt, provides an interior presence at both ends.  He is a legit rim protector and on offense he can score with basic post moves on the block as well as step out and hit shots facing the basket.  Miguel Orbe, a 6’4 junior, is a versatile three-level scorer.  His perimeter jumper is lethal, he connects on soft floaters in the lane and along the baseline and can score through contact at the basket.  Jordan Corbitt, a 6’5 junior, rebounds the ball well at both ends and makes the most of his scoring opportunities inside the arc.  Malik Charles, a 6’0 junior, is both speedy and strong at the point guard spot.  He has scoring tools but looks to get and keep teammates involved in the action.  Jake Sheppard, a 6’0 junior, provides a spark with his ability to make open perimeter shots, disrupt passing lanes, turning steals into scores, and plays with contagious energy.

JUPITER

Two things you can count on when playing Jupiter: They will play with great effort individually and collectively, and fire away from three.  That proved to be a pretty good formula this past weekend.  Brandon Collum, a 5’10 junior, plays with great poise, is a reliable three-point marksman, and a crafty scorer and distributor when penetrating the defense.  Zach Bombardier, a 5’10 senior, lives up to his name as he can light it up from distance.  He also has no fear challenging bigger defenders when driving hard to the hole.  Blake Nicholas, a 6’3 senior, found ways to score both inside and out.  Zach Fleming, a 6’1 senior, hit deep threes, rebounded well for his size, and distributed the ball well.
