Last but not least from the Hoop Exchange Fall Festival.
WINDERMERE PREP
The Lakers are led by the dynamic inside/outside combination of 6’5 senior Brandon Bass, a Florida State commit, and 6’7 senior Connor Corris, who is garnering plenty of D-I interest. Bass is a top fifty player nationally in his class. The lefty is a potent three-point marksman, lethal in transition, and creates a lot of “and one” opportunities when attacking the basket off the bounce. Bass has enhanced his playmaking abilities, showing good court vision and passing instincts this past weekend. Corris is a very good athlete that is quick off the floor, has a nice touch around the basket, and can step out and score via the mid-range shot or drive the ball from short corner and high post areas. He runs the floor well and does a decent job of protecting the basket. Zihong Fan, a 6’6 junior, helps out on the glass. Tristan Tucker, a 6’0 sophomore, will help run the offense and is a deep-ball threat.
TAMPA CATHOLIC
There was a concern that the Crusaders would have trouble this weekend without four of their expected five starters. However, that gave some other players chances to show that they will be able to contribute and once again make TC a squad to be reckoned with when the real season starts. Mehki White, a 6’5 senior, is solid on the interior. He has a strong frame, good athleticism, rebounds actively in and out of his area, and plays with a high-running motor. Christian Mitchell, a 6’3 junior, helped to pick up the slack on offense, knocking down some threes as well as scoring ahead of the defense on the break. Sebastian Amisid, a 6’2 sophomore, proved to be a potent three-point shooter, draining four straight in a game we watched. Aiden Haugabrook, a 6’2 freshman, showed plenty of promise running the offense, getting into and scoring in the lane, and connecting on perimeter shots when given the opportunity.
MILTON
Located just east of Pensacola, Milton came a long way for a chance at some quality competition they won’t find in the Panhandle. Mateo Robinson, a 6’4 senior, does a little bit of everything for the team. He is a primary scorer, distributor, and defensive catalyst. Robinson shoots the ball well from behind the arc, scores thru contact in the lane, hits floaters, and rebounds well at both ends of the floor. Long and athletic, he can defend a variety of positions. Sergio Robinson, a 6’0 senior, may not have the overall skill as his brother but is certainly productive in the scorebook and stat sheet. He is difficult to defend on drives, scores well in traffic, and quickly gets the ball to open teammates when stopped by defenders. Kaden Cooper, a 6’1 senior, plays hard at both ends, rebounds well for his size, and is a capable perimeter shooter.
