FLORIDA REBELS INVITATIONAL NOTABLES – 16U

Carson Crawford, Florida Rebels 16U: The 6’6 sophomore from Fleming Island confirmed and built upon what we saw from him at the Travel Team Jamboree.  He has a good skill set, solid basketball IQ, and the confidence to make plays in high-level situations.  Crawford connected on both of his three-point attempts, dunked home a drive against a collapsing defense, converted three-point plays and was a factor on the glass.  He has the physical tools to be a versatile defender.

Johnny Lackaff, Austin Rivers Southeast Elite 16U: The 6’2 sophomore out of Sarasota High School is productive and efficient.  His three-point shot has deep range and he makes it off the catch and the dribble at an equally successful rate.  Lackaff is solid with the basketball, keeps it moving, and is quick to get the ball to players with good shoot opportunities.  He will score on the drive should he be played too tightly.  Defensively he is solid, anticipates the passing lanes well, and has no problem with physical play.

O’neal Delancey, Florida Rebels 16U: The 6’3 sophomore from St. Petersburg Gibbs isn’t just talented but also plays very hard and is super competitive.  A three-level scorer, he is instinctive in knowing how to get a good shot and the best way to achieve separation to get that shot.  Delancey is physical in attacking the basket, seeks contact, and makes some tough shots after taking said contact.  He continues to impress as a passer, especially in transition.  Defensively, Delancey moves his feet well and makes the game difficult for opposing ball-handlers.

Falliou Mbangue, Austin Rivers Southeast Elite 16U: The 6’8 sophomore at the Academy of Central Florida in Orlando was a pleasant surprise this past weekend.  He showed off much more in the way of ball skills and scoring ability than we had seen in the past.  Mbangue displayed a good touch from the perimeter, the ability to handle the basketball, and some reliable scoring tools around the basket.  He rebounded, ran the floor, protected the rim and was quick to pass the ball out to open perimeter shooters when double-teamed inside.

Nijaun Harris, Florida Rebels 16U: The 6’4 freshman from St. Petersburg HS has a reputation as a shooter, but that shot wasn’t falling in the game we watched.  However, good players adapt when a weapon isn’t working or taken away and Harris did just that.  Blessed with a strong and sturdy frame, Harris took his defender inside and worked him over.  The Rebels found a variety of ways to post him up and got good results for more often than not.  If it wasn’t a bucket, Harris spent time at the foul line.  He has good form and mechanics on that shot, so our guess it was just one of those days for him from the perimeter.

Kevin Edou, Austin Rivers Southeast Elite 16U: The 6’4 sophomore from Orlando Olympia apparently has changed teams since the Travel Team Jamboree but hasn’t changed his approach to the game.  Edou plays the game with great energy, effort and physicality, making plays in a lot of different ways to impact the game.  A long and active defender, he guards multiple positions well, is an active rebounder at both ends and gets a lot of easy baskets via transition and put backs.  Once he develops a respectable perimeter shot, his recruiting profile should skyrocket.

Jalil Hill, 1 Family 16U: Because of games running long, we were unable to catch 1 Family 16U much longer than the last quarter of a game.  Hill, a 6’8 eighth grader at Jacksonville Providence, pulled double duty for 1 Family as he played for both the 16U and 15U teams.  He moves well for his size, has some decent athleticism that will no doubt get much better as he physically matures, and doesn’t shy away from physical play.  In the limited time we saw him, Hill had a pair of offensive rebounds, an assist to a cutting teammate, and a steal and score in the open court.
