Class 3A completed its state tournament last week with Fort Lauderdale Calvary Christian hoisting the championship trophy. Here are our picks for the All-Tournament Team.
Shon Abaev, Fort Lauderdale Calvary Christian (MVP): The 6’8 senior and Cincinnati signee had a subdued semi-final with 11 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals. In a tightly contested title game, Abaev came to the forefront with a double-double, scoring 20 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Each one was needed in the team’s two-point win.
K.J. Francis, Fort Lauderdale Calvary Christian: The 6’3 junior had a coming out party in the semi-finals as he went off for a game-high 25 points, as well as dishing out 5 assists and garnering 5 steals. His numbers in the final were “only” 6 points and 5 rebounds but he drew some extra defensive attention after his performance the previous game that opened things up for his teammates.
Cayden Daughtry, Fort Lauderdale Calvary Christian: The 5’10 sophomore came up big in the championship game, leading all scorers with 23 points, going 7-7 from the foul line in the process. In the semis, he contributed 12 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals.
Herly Brutus, The Villages Charter: The 6’6 junior isn’t normally a big scorer, but in the team’s two-point semi-finals win, The Villages needed every one of his 22 points. Brutus also tallied 11 rebounds and 4 steals in that game. In a two-point finals loss, he scored 6 points, had 3 assists and 3 blocked shots.
