Class 2A completed its state tournament last week with Miami Riviera Prep hoisting the championship trophy for the third straight year. Here are our picks for the All-Tournament Team.
Mason Fuentes, Miami Riviera Prep (MVP): The 6’0 junior is constantly in motion on the court and that produces positive results at both ends of the floor. He racked up 17 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists in the team’s semi-final victory. In the title game, Fuentes came up with 21 points, 4 assists and 5 steals.
Myles Fuentes, Miami Riviera Prep: The 6’0 sophomore guard was outstanding in a lead supporting role to older brother Mason. Myles had solid numbers in the semis, going for 12 points, 3 rebounds and 2 steals. In the championship game, he scored 16 points, grabbed 3 rebounds and dished out a pair of assists in the win.
Jeremy Jenkins, Miami Riviera Prep: The 6’8 sophomore elevated his game in Lakeland with the loss of 7’0 senior Gustavo Gumeraes to a knee injury the last week of the season. Jenkins, considered to be one of the better sophomores in the country, went for 10 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 steals in the team’s semi-finals win. He capped off the tournament with a double-double in the championship, scoring 16 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.
Tate Darner, Lakeland Santa Fe Catholic: The 6’4 senior could easily be tabbed the Most Outstanding Player of the Class 2A tournament in Lakeland. The UT-Chattanooga signee tossed in 34 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in the semis. In the championship game, Darner did all he could to lift Santa Fe to the title with 27 points and 5 rebounds.
Toby Lane, Lakeland Santa Fe Catholic: The 5’10 junior gets a lot done at both ends of the court. In the semis he stuffed the scorebook with 15 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 6 steals. Lane followed that up with 19 points and a pair of assists in the title game.
