In short, we hope this doesn’t get ugly. La Lumiere will have a burning desire to erase the taste of losing a fifteen-point lead last night while Owasso will once again have to compete against an EYBL Scholastic League team with much more individual talent.
Jalen Haralson put La Lumiere on the board first with a three. Jalen Montanati responded in kind for Owasso. The teams traded two-point baskets then Owasso took a three point lead after a three from 6’4 junior Boden Williams. La Lumiere got within 12-11 after a score inside by Chuck Love. Back- to-back threes from Owasso one from Williams and one from 6’4 junior Julian Wilson put them up 18-11 with under a minute to play. Darius Adams connected on a floater for La Lu just before the end of the quarter to make the score 18-13 in favor of Owasso.
La Lumiere used a 7-2 run, highlighted by a three from Haralson, to tie the score at 20-20 with under five minutes to play in the second. Owasso then got a three from 5’10 senior Kobe Freeman and a bucket inside by Williams to go up by five. The teams traded baskets and with under a minute to go, Owasso led 27-22. Montanati scored on a drive to put Owasso up seven but La Lumiere got a score inside from Love just before the horn to make the score 29-24 in favor of Owasso at the break.
Owasso created some separation at the start of the third quarter with a 7-3 run to go up 36-27 with just two minutes played. La Lu responded with six straight, four by Adams to get to within 36-33. Owasso got the lead to 41-35 after a three-point play from 611 senior Jax Kerr. Lu Hi came back with five straight, four by Harralson, to get to within one at 41-40 with one minute to play in the quarter. Owasso closed out the quarter with two free throws and a buzzer beating three, all by Montanati, to open up a 46-40 lead going into the fourth quarter.
La Lumiere slashed the gap to two points after two quick Haralson baskets. Owasso responded with consecutive threes to go up eight, 52-44, with 4:26 left to play. La Lu responded with a 6-0 run, four by Love to get back to within 52-50 with three minutes to play. After an exchange of baskets Montanati hit a three in transition to put Owasso up five, 57-52, with just under two minutes to play. Try as they might, La Lumiere was never able to get the margin under three from that point on. Owasso upsets its second EYBL Scholastic opponent of the tournament by the score of 62-59.
Montanati led all scorers with 34 points. Williams added 11 points for Owasso.
