In any other tournament in the country, this would make a great championship game. At the City of Palms Classic, this is a solid consolation round game. Both Faith Family and Central Catholic can play up-tempo or with pace and precision.
Faith Family got out of the gate very fast as they scored off the opening tip then turned two straight CC turnovers into slams to lead 6-0. CC finally got on the board with a bucket from 6’4 senior Issac Carr, but FF got two buckets, one from 6’5 senior King Grace and one from 6’9 junior Davion Adkins. Down 10-2 with 6:22 left in the quarter, Central Catholic called timeout. Magic words must have been spoken because they quickly scored eight points, four by 6’’5 senor Duece Paschal to tie the game at 10-10. Faith Family rattled off four quick points but a 5-0 run highlighted by a three from 6’4 junior Robbie Long gave CC a 16-15 lead with thirty-five seconds left. Faith Family took the lead back with a late bucket to lead by one, 16-15, after the first quarter.
Central Catholic started the second period with a 6-1 run to lead 21-17 less than two minutes in. An 8-0 run by Faith Family, four coming from 6’3 senior Greg Lawson, put FF back on top by the score of 25-21. Central Catholic hit a three to cut the margin to one. From there, the teams would trade baskets and the margin would alternate between one and three points. Ater CC hit a three to make the score 32-31 in favor of Faith Family, FF finished the half with a 7-0 run, highlighted by a steal and slam from Adkins, to lead 39-31 at the half.
For much of the third quarter, Faith Family maintained a lead between nine and seven points. With just under two minutes to play in the third, it looked like Central Catholic was making a run, drawing to within 51-46. That wasn’t to be the case as Faith Family finished out the third period with a 10-1 run, six of those coming from Grace, to extend the Faith Family lead to fourteen, 61-47.
Try as Central Catholic might, they wouldn’t get closer than eleven points after they knocked down a three to open the final quarter. Faith Family took advantage of rushed shots to get some easy scores in transition to expand their lead into the twenty-point territory. Faith Family advances to the consolation final by the score of 82-61.
Grace led Faith Family with 19 points while Adkins contributed 18 points and Lawson tallied 12 points.
For Central Catholic, Zamir Paschal scored 16 points while Duce Paschal added 15 points and Robbie Long tallied 11 points.
