City of Palms Consolation Round: TX Faith Family vs. MD Bishop McNamara

In the second game in the Consolation bracket, Faith Family out of Texas takes on Bishop McNamara out of Maryland and the Washington, DC Catholic Athletic Conference.  The teams got here in wildly different fashions.  Faith Family took IMG Academy into double overtime before falling by three points while Bishop McNamara had the century mark dropped on them by Orlando Oak Ridge.

McNamara jumped out to an early 7-0 lead as 6’6 junior Qayden Samuels scored off the opening tip, drained a three and then scored off a steal.  Faith Family answered with a 7-0 run of their own, four from 6’5 senior Lamont Hartfield, to tie the game with 5:24 left in the period.  McNamara responded with another 7-0 spurt, spotlighted by a three rom 6’4 junior Prince Alexander Moody.  The alternating runs continued with Faith Family scoring the next five points to get to within two, 14-12, with just over two minutes left in the quarter.  Both teams hit a three, ut 6’3 senior Jamyr Coleman converted a three-point play with thirty seconds left to give McNamara a 20-15 lead after one quarter.

Momentum shifted back to Faith Family in the second period.  King Grace, a 6’5 senior, opened the quarter with a three for Faith Family and then FF tied the score at 20-20 with a transition basket.  Jayden Mills, a 6’5 sophomore, got McNamara on the board for the first time in the quarter to retake the lead but then Faith Family went off.  A 12-0 run fueled by Grace and 6’9 junior Davion Adkins gave FF a 32-22 lead with just under three minutes left in the second quarter.  McNamara got off the mat to get to within six at 34-28 by the end of the half.

It looked like Faith Family was going to blow the game open with an 10-0 run to start the third, fueled by a pair of threes from Hartfield.  McNamara sprang back to life with an 11-2 run with nine of those coming from Moody.  It looked like McNamara was back in it with the score 44-37 with just over four minutes to go in the quarter.  A McNamara three offset a FF two to make it a six point game, but Faith Family quickly got their lead back to double-digits.  With one quarter left to play, Faith Family led by eleven 59-48.

McNamara made one last push to start the fourth with Samuels scoring four straight points to get to within 59-52.  A 5-0 run by Faith Family, four of those coming from Adkins, gave them a double-digit lead to take control.  The closest McNamara would get would be 68-60 with just over one minute to play.  Faith Family would hold off McNamara at the foul line to win by the score of 73-63.

Faith Family was led by Adkins with 17 points.  Both Harfield and Grace scored 13 points.

For McNamara, Samuels led all scorers with 34 points.  Moody added 15 points.
