City of Palms Consolation Round: PA Archbishop Carroll vs. OR Central Catholic

The final game of the consolation bracket features Archbishop Carroll out of the Philly area taking on Central Catholic out of Portland from the Great Northwest.  Both teams were taken to the proverbial woodshed by Montverde Academy and Grayson out of Georgia respectively in the opening round.

Carroll scored the first four points o the game as 6’9 junior Drew Corrao scored inside and 6’3 junior Nasir Ralls hit a pair of free throws.  Central Catholic tied it up quickly with a transition basket from 6’5 senior Duce Paschal and a drive from 6’4 senior Isaac Carr.  A transition slam from Carroll’s 6’6 junior Luca Foster gave the lead back to them, but then Central Catholic went wild.  The Rams scored fourteen uncontested points as Duce Paschal and 6’0 junior Zamir Paschal combined for most of that scoring.  With just under three minutes to play in the first, Central Catholic led 18-6.  Munir Greig, a 6’6 sophomore, hit a pair of threes to get Carrol back into the game but when all was said and done at the end of the quarter, Central Catholic had doubled up Carrol 28-14.

Catholic hit a pair of threes to widen their lead, but Carroll fought back, getting to within eleven, 34-23, with less than two minutes gone in the period.  Catholic scored three unanswered, then Carroll went on an 8-2 run getting to within nine, 40-31, with just under four minutes to play.  At that point the momentum swung back to Central Catholic.  The Rams finished out the half with a 9-3 run to lead 49-34 at the break.

Things did not get better for Carroll in the third quarter.  Central Catholic outscored Carroll 12-6 over the first four plus minutes of the period to lead 61-40.  It was more of a slow boil that a quick spurt in terms of growing the score.  Carroll got the margin below twenty for a moment, but Central Catholic scored the last four points of the quarter to lead 67-44.

Central Catholic dominated the first few minutes of the fourth and with just over five minutes to play led 79-51.  Carroll didn’t sulk or quit.  They unleashed some defensive pressure while at the same time Central Catholic took their foot off the gas.  That twenty-eight point lead started to shrink eventually culminating in a 21-8 run for Carroll.  Unfortunately, there wasn’t enough time to complete the comeback and Central Catholic advances with an 87-72 victory.

Central Catholic got 20 points from Zamir Paschal, 19 from Isaac Carr and 14 from Duce Paschal.

Luca Foster led Carroll with 18 points while Munir Greig tallied 15 points and Nasir Ralls added 14 points.
