The first game in the Signature Series features a pair of independent powers from opposite sides of the country. Dream City features national top fifteen junior guard Ikenna Alozie while Bullis relies on 7’0 senior and UConn signee Eric Reibe.
Reibe got Bullis on the board first but Dream City countered with a three-point play from Alozie. The teams battled back and forth from there and with 3:33 left in the opening quarter the score was tied at 8-8. Dream City then ran off six straight points, all on free throws, to grab a 14-8 advantage. Bullis’ 6’4 senior Adrien Stevens then scored four straight points to get them back to within two. Dream City got a three from 6’5 senior Jalin Halland and a putback from Alozie to offset a mid-range jumper from Reibe to lead 19-14 after one quarter of play.
Dream City maintained its lead in the early part of the second quarter. However, with the score 22-18, Bullis got hot, going on a 7-0 run, five from 6’5 senior Chris Richards, to take a 25-22 lead with four minutes remaining. That is a lead they would not relinquish. It was as large as 34-26 after a three from 6’0 senior Angelo Dickerson, but a putback before the buzzer by Dream City’s Alozie made the halftime score 34-28 in favor of Bullis.
Bullis increased their lead to nine early in the third period. Dream City then mounted a 10-3 run, highlighted by a pair of threes from 6’5 senior Brayden Boe, to draw within two, 42-40, with 3:29 left in the third period. Bullis held them off and eventually pushed their lead back to 48-42 with thirty seconds left after a score by Stevens. Alozie answered with a three to cut the deficit to three, 48-45, going into the fourth quarter.
Dream City scored the first four points of the quarter to take their first lead since midway through the second quarter. Bullis then scored five straight points, all by Reibe to retake the lead at 53-49, with just under six minutes to play. Dream City had one more run left in them and with just over a minute to play, tied the score at 57-57 after a three by 6’0 senior Brennan Peterson. Bullis missed on their end but secured the offensive rebound, given them more time and opportunity to win. Stevenson took advantage of the gift, dropping in a mid-range jumper with six seconds left. Dream City took a timeout to draw up a final play but it proved fruitless. Bullis advances in the Signature Series 59-57.
Bullis was led by Reibe with 22 points while Stevenson added 20 points.
Alozie led Dream City with 19 points while Holland finished with 14 points.
