Yesterday’s MOP article was determined by a player’s graduating class.  Today, we will look at the Most Outstanding Player based on the age group level he played on.

17U – Cayden Daughtry, FL Rebels 17U: No surprise here and no need to add on to what was mentioned in yesterday’s write-up.

16U – Bamba Tourey, Tre Mann Elite 16U: The 7’0 Tourey was named MVP of Puma’s PRONXT 16U circuit.  He has developed his ability to step out and make shots facing the basket from inside the arc.  If the defender is over-eager to contest, it only takes him one dribble to get to and score thunderously over the rim.  He can score on either block with some basic post moves if not double-teamed.  Tourey is an ever-present lob and offensive rebounding threat. He quickly converts from defense to offense and vice versa, sprinting the floor to get to the area he can make the most impact.  Tourey is a difference-maker with his ability to negate shot attempts at the rim, switch out on ball-screens, and quickly help and recover.  He has excellent length, athleticism, and plays with great energy.  Tourey has made the move to Prolific Prep where he will be challenged every day by players of equal size, speed, strength and athletic ability.

15U – Zaire Colbert, Jet Academy 15U: The 6’1 Colbert was one of the better scorers in the 15U age group regardless of circuit.  He averaged 19.2 points a contest on shooting splits of 50.8% from the field overall, 43.4% from behind the arc, and 75.4% from the charity stripe.  Colbert had a better than 2:1 assist-to-turnover ratio and accounted for two steals per contest.  He impressed onlookers with his feel for the game and exquisite ball-handling skills.  Colbert was praised for making the right reads on offense and making the game easier for his teammates.  He is a tough cover due to his ability to create separation from his defender with the dribble and drain perimeter shots as well as get defenders off balance and blow by them to finish at the basket.  Quick feet, active hands, and good instincts make Colbert solid on the defensive end of the floor.  He played his freshman season at The Rock School in Gainesville and played at the FABC team camp with Victory Rock Prep out of Bradenton.  Should he wind up somewhere else for his sophomore season, hopefully it will be in the Sunshine State.
