CLASS 2A
Finishing 12-4 in our predictions may not have been our best ever, but we won’t complain. Rocky Bayou Christian held serve at home against San Jose Prep. Holy Trinity was the two seed in Region 2 but had to go on the road (not very far) to play Melbourne Central Catholic. Their 23-point victory suggest little problem. In Region Three, Neumann from Naples made the drive up I-75 and defeated Carrollwood Day out of Clearwater. Lastly, down south in Region Four, sixth seed Westminster Academy pulled out a one-point victory over the three seed True North Classical out of Miami. The nail-biter of the night may have been third-seed Benjamin’s home win in Region Two over sixth seed Foundation Academy out of Winter Garden by a mere two points.
Best Matchup: By the numbers, it should be #2 Riviera Prep hosting #6 Divine Savior. However, we are going to side with the game between Naples First Baptist Academy and St. Stephen’s Episcopal. This will be the first playoff road game for a young St. Stephen’s squad and FBA is experienced in this type of atmosphere. It is their first matchup so the unknown makes it a bit more intriguing.
Best Chance for an Upset: Probably the game mentioned above, one of three #2 vs #6 matchups. However, The First Academy out of Orlando and Miami Country Day should prove too deep and talented at home.
Our Picks
Providence School over Rocky Bayou Christian
The First Academy over P.K. Yonge
Santa Fe Catholic over Jupiter Christian
Holy Trinity Episcopal over The Benjamin School
Northside Christian over St. John Neumann
First Baptist Academy over St. Stephen’s Episcopal
Riviera Prep over Divine Savior
Miami Country Day over Westminster Academy
CLASS 3A
A pair of road warrior teams kept us from a perfect record and having to settle for 14-2. Bradford had a long ride up to Walton in the panhandle but held them to 29 total points in a double-digit win. In possibly the surprise of the night, Clearwater Calvary Christian took down Tampa Catholic by seventeen in Tampa. The Crusaders had won the previous two games this season. Only two games out of the sixteen played on Saturday night were decided by single digits. Windermere Prep won by nine over visiting Cardinal Mooney while Cardinal Newman of West Palm Beach won a three-point squeaker vs. Tradition Prep.
Best Matchup: There are several to choose from. In Region Two, Lake Highland Prep will face a challenge against a Clearwater Calvary team with good size. In that same region, Windermere Prep travels up to The Villages in a matchup of #6 vs #7. Region Three features a rematch between district foes North Broward Prep (#3) vs. St Andrew’s (#5). In Region Four, NSU University hosting Miami SLAM should be entertaining. The Boss needs to get working on that cloning device he’s been talking about.
Best Chance for an Upset: Miami SLAM has played a tough schedule all season long and it shows in a 15-10 record. NSU University School’s strength of schedule isn’t that far behind. We just feel SLAM’s experience against high-level opponents will allow it to stay in this one until the very end.
Our Picks
Andrew Jackson over Bradford
Newberry over Episcopal School
Lake Highland Prep over Clearwater Calvary Christian
The Villages Charter over Windermere Prep
Fort Lauderdale Calvary Christian over Cardinal Newman
North Broward Prep over Saint Andrew’s
Cardinal Gibbons over Pine Crest
NSU University School over Miami SLAM
