Stefan Frisby, Florida Pro: A 6’2 junior out of Davie Western, he has great control and handle of the basketball. Frisby keeps his head up, continuously surveys the floor for open teammates and/or lanes to the basket. He is adept at the no-look pass and rarely telegraphs his passes. Frisby connected on a couple of threes to keep the defense honest throughout the game.
Solomon Bradshaw, MBJ Elite: The 6’0 junior from Oak Ridge in Orlando is strongly built as well as fast with the basketball. His perimeter shot has developed into a respectable weapon to go along with his ability to penetrate defenses with the dribble and make plays for himself and teammates. Bradshaw is quick to push the pace at every opportunity. He is a dogged and determined on-ball defender.
Aydan Fields, Elite 8: A 6’6 sophomore out of Tradition Prep in Port St. Lucie, he played up a level and looked good doing so. He showed he could drive the ball and finish successfully at the basket. When defenders attempted to take that away, Fields was comfortable and consistent in knocking down perimeter shots on both sides of the arc. He is an active rebounder, especially on the offensive end.
Dwayne Foreman III, Powerhouse Bulls: The 5’11 sophomore from Hope Charter in Groveland may be slight in frame but is strong in game. He is a deft ball-handler, alert passer, and makes shots from a variety of distances and angles. Foreman doesn’t shy away from driving to the basket and absorbing contact as he is more than happy to earn easy points at the foul line. He has a good feel for the game and doesn’t overcomplicate things by bouncing the ball a bunch before making a move.
Mali Baker, Powerhouse Bulls: The junior looks to be around 6’5 but we are not sure what school he attends. Thin but bouncy, Baker did the majority of his work in transition and around the basket. He was quick to sprint ahead of defenders for easy baskets and had no difficulty finishing over the rim. Baker had a couple of nice drives as well as cuts into the lane to log a few scores. Defensively he was a surprisingly effective shot blocker as we counted five over the course of the game we watched. He did a solid job of rebounding his area at both ends of the floor.
Evan Roberts, Tre Mann Elite: A 6’2 junior at Palmetto, Roberts is a quick and active guard that excels at getting paint touches and making things happen from there. He earned several free throw opportunities, cashing in on most. Roberts is fast with the ball on the break and generally makes good pass vs shot decisions when the game is uptempo. He didn’t show much in the way of a perimeter shot as he made just one of two attempts, both inside the arc. However, the mechanics look good so we will reserve judgement on that aspect of his game for another time. Defensively, he is long, quick, and makes great use of his active hands and feet.
Asa Kohn, TNBA South: A 6’4 junior out of Oviedo Hagerty, Kohn’s reputation as a shooter is well-earned. He splashed several shots from different locales on the court both off the catch and the dribble. However, Kohn came across as much more than a catch-and-shoot specialist. He made good passes on drives and in transition, rebounded at both ends, and was quick to keep the ball moving and make the defense work. Kohn won’t overwhelm onlookers with athleticism but he understands how to play.
Calvin Laing, SE Elite Gold: A 6’4 sophomore playing up, Laing played bigger than his 6’4 size. He routinely came away with rebounds against bigger players, scored inside after one or two dribbles, and proved to be fast up and down the court.
Ryan Waugh, Wellington Wolves Select: The 6’0 junior out of Palm Beach Central got off to a slow start but once he got going he was tough to contain. After scoring on a drive, he missed his first three perimeter shots. However, like all good scorers, Waugh has a short memory and dropped in his next four three-point shot attempts. That helped his team pull ahead and get a needed “W”.
Kenneth Morgan, Skills Center Elite: A 6’8 junior from Tampa Catholic, Morgan was often a dominant interior presence in the game we took in on Sunday. With a college-ready body and athleticism, Morgan controlled the glass at both ends, got easy points on putbacks, and scored inside with basic post moves as well as converting drop-off passes from teammates into points. He didn’t show much of a perimeter shot but did prove capable of driving the ball from the high post and short corners to the bucket for points. Morgan isn’t afraid to play physically in the post and challenges any opponent that dares to enter the lane.
Robert Guishard, Florida Pro: A 6’6 junior at Pembroke Pines Charter, Guishard is a bouncy run/jump athlete that impacts the game around the basket. He is quick off the floor with a soft touch, absorbs contact to finish in a crowd, and will impart violence upon the rim if given the opportunity. For Guishard’s size, he is an excellent shot blocker. He is also a multi-effort rebounder whose second and third leaps are as quick and explosive as his first.
Kai Brookins, Skills Center Elite: A 5’10 junior from Winthrop College Prep, Brookins had a hot hand from the perimeter on Sunday. He dropped in a trio of threes, each seemingly further out than the previous one. He adjusted to the defense playing up and drove around opponents for scores. Defensively he was very active in clogging the passing lanes.
