2025-26 Best of the Backcourts – Part II

Fort Lauderdale Cardinal Gibbons

5’9 SR A.J. Ambrose, 6’4 SR Justus Dylan-Herbert, 6’4 SR Evan Wyche

This group propelled Cardinal Gibbons to the final four last season and look prime to do it again.  The high-level skill and savvy of Ambrose more than makes up for any unwise perception of his size.  Dylan-Herbert is a very good athlete with a strong frame, giving him the ability to finish through contact at the rim and player bigger than his size when pursuing rebounds.  He also is an adept perimeter shooter.  Wyche does a little bit of everything.  He makes contributions in a lot of different areas but doesn’t force things.

Orlando Dr. Phillips

6’3 SR Isaiah Gillard, 6’0 SO Josiah Gillard, 6’4 SR London Hatch, 6’4 SO Henry Thomas

A trio of transfers joins Hatch to give the Panthers one of the more formidable perimeter attacks in, not just Central Florida, but the entire Sunshine State.  Isaiah Gillard is a solid scorer, particularly from the mid-range.  He can play either guard spot but expect the point guard duties to go to younger brother Josiah Gillard.  Josiah plays with great confidence, impacts the game as a scorer and distributor, and is getting national notice in the Class of 2028.  Hatch’s specialty is knocking down long-range shots, but he is also a feisty and physical driver and rebounder.  Thomas has a natural knack for scoring, especially beating defenders off the dribble or down the floor in transition.

Orlando Lake Highland Prep

6’5 SR Michael Madueme, 6’3 SR R.J. Ingram, 6’5 SR Shiva Atwal, 6’4 JR Mark Dadlani

This quartet has great chemistry and versatility.  Madueme is a Columbia commit, is versatile at both ends of the floor, and fills the stat sheet in a variety of areas.  Ingram is getting D-I interest.  He is a physical and fast guard that plays with great energy, gets to and scores well at the rim, and get hot from deep.  Atwal started his career as a catch-and-shoot specialist but has expanded his game.  He now scores well on the drive and puts in great effort in going after rebounds at both ends.  Dadlani transfers in but has proven to be a three-point marksman.  His size will help when it comes to rebounding and defense.

Miami Palmetto

6’3 SR Rafael Diaz, 6’5 JR Sebastian Madera, 6’3 JR Samfree Sarante, 6’0 SR Jaiden Horton

Both individually and collectively, this group can really score.  Whether getting to the basket, pulling up in the lane for floaters and mid-range jumpers, or draining threes off the catch or the dribble, each one of these guys can do it and at a high level.  Diaz and Horton are the most likely “offense initiators” to get things going but either of the four can put points on the board should things break down.

Orlando Oak Ridge

6’3 SR Donovan Williams, 6’2 SR Nate Earl, 5’10 JR Whit Bynoe, 6’2 SO Jahmar Smith

Williams returns to the Orlando area after a year at famed Oak Hill Academy.  Known as a deluxe scorer, Williams has shown this fall that he can run an offense without reducing his scoring output.  He is committed to UCF.  Earl is another returnee, having spent last season in Georgia.  He is a combo guard that impacts the game in various ways.  Bynoe is a deep threat every time he touches the ball.  He can also run the offense.  Smith is an athletic wing that excels in transition and attacking defenders off the bounce.
