VCU adds South Miami Standout

Posted on: September 4th, 2012, by Cory Rollins

Simmons is a low post threat

We have known for a while that VCU and head coach Shaka Smart were major players in the recruitment of South Miami’s Antravious Simmons. The 6’9 power forward ended all speculation by verbally committing to the Rams over the weekend. Simmons shunned offers from higher profile programs such as Alabama, Miami, Mississippi State, USF, Memphis, South Carolina, and Georgia.

Simmons stock skyrocketed last summer when he joined Team Breakdown and turned in some impressive performances with the Downrite Rockcrushers. This past season he led South Miami to a District Championship and led the team statistically in several categories.

We have always liked Simmons size and ability to get position in the low post. He will give the Rams a solid low post presence for a team that plays an up-tempo style and is making the transition into the Atlantic-10 Conference.

Simmons is ranked the No. 8 prospect in Florida in our Class of 2013 Post Summer Rankings.
