We wrap up our coverage of the Travel Team Jamboree put on by Source Hoops and The Hoop Exchange last weekend in Apopka. Our focus this time is on “the young guns” in the 15U division.
Team Jax United
Jordin Jackson: A 5’10 freshman point guard out of Impact Christian Academy in Jacksonville, Jackson did a solid job of running his team in the game we observed. He has speed and quickness with the ball, sees the floor well and distributes the ball and can also score when called upon.
Isaiah Adams: He impressed at the Spring Showdown a couple of weeks ago and was no less impressive with his travel team. Adams is long, rangy, and has the ability to score inside and out. The 6’5 Jacksonville Paxon School product handles the ball well out on the perimeter and makes an impact on defense with his length and ability to anticipate where the ball is going.
Leonard Manuel: A 6’5 athletic wing out of Ocala Vanguard, his superior athleticism allowed him to dominate in the paint and score around the basket. A physical player, Manuel finished in traffic on the break and despite playing with a wrap on his hand, got by defenders off the bounce.
Gervon Dexter: Listed at 6’8, the freshman from Lake Wales has a strong frame and seemingly boundless energy. He has good footwork in the post and can put the ball on the floor for a dribble or two, get to the basket, and finish through contact. Dexter is also a strong rebounder at both ends of the floor.
Lance Irving: A key contributor to Leesburg’s state championship run, the 6’2 Irving is quite the scorer. He has a consistent shot out to the arc but doesn’t hesitate to take the ball to the rim when given the opportunity. Irving scores thru traffic in both transition and in half-court settings.
Janille Reynolds: A 6’8 post out of Pinellas Park, his size immediately makes him intriguing. Reynolds has a good frame, rebounds in traffic, and has basic scoring skills inside at this point in his development. He moves up and down the floor well in transition.
Cayden Baker: A 6’6 freshman at Southwest Christian in Fort Myers, Baker plays with a fiery competitiveness. He doesn’t back down from physical play inside, pursues rebounds with abandon, and scores well from fifteen feet and in.
Team Knight 15U
Brandon Garcia: The 6’1 guard out of Weston Cypress Bay was one of the more pleasant surprises on the day. He made good decisions with the ball, showed solid court vision and basketball IQ as well as a nice jump shot that is consistent from inside the arc.
Charles Bryant: The 6’4 Boynton Beach product got a lot done inside for being undersized. He scored well around the basket, spent a lot of time at the free throw line, and rebounded well against bigger players.
Crisnel Francois: A 6’1 wing from Suncoast in Riviera Beach, he used his strength and athleticism to get the ball to the basket at nearly every opportunity. Francois will knock down open shots out to the arc and is also a quick ball hawk at the defensive end.
