Eagles are perched on top

The action on the hardwood tips-off tomorrow in the sunshine state.  Montverde Academy is the preseason #1 ranked team in our Top 25 regardless of class.  Our Top 25 consist of teams that are members of the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA).  Montverde is loaded with Division I prospects throughout the roster.  They have the size, depth and talent to compete with any team in the country.  First year head coach, Kevin Boyle will be looking to take the perennial powerhouse program to another level.  Much of the Eagles success will rest upon junior point guard Kasey Hill.  While the Eagles have loads of talent, they don’t have depth at the point guard position.  Hill will be depended upon heavily to play a lot of minutes and make this team run efficiently.  The silver lining for Boyle is that Hill is one of the top point guards in the country and has varsity experience since middle school.  In other words, Montverde will be fine!!

Tigers ready to bite!

The teams ranked 2-5 are no stranger to success and their winning ways should continue this season. Blanche Ely (#2) has the experience, athleticism and chemistry to compete with anybody.  Head Coach Melvin Randall will be all smiles sporting his signature fashions on the sidelines in Broward County.  Lake Wales (#3) is a lot similar to Ely but are not as big or deep.  However, they have Polk County toughness which goes a long way when you are trying to make a return trip to the state championship game.  Last year the Highlanders were knocked off in the Class 5A title game by Palm Beach Gardens Dwyer who finished the season as the Source Hoops #1 ranked team in Florida.  Orlando Christian Prep (#4) has a mixture of youth and experience as they are right back in the mix for another state championship.  OCP will once again face another challenging non-classification schedule.   Lawton Williams has Norland (#5) poised to be the crème of the crop in the MIA.  They have size, experience and the defensive intensity to go a long way.
